An Update from the SF Parent PAC: Afterschool, Math and New Officers

March 23, 2015

Hello San Francisco Parent Political Action Committee (Parent PAC) community!

After another successful election season, we wanted to touch base with you and tell you what we are up to:

High Quality Afterschool Programming

The Parent PAC has been advocating for guaranteed, high quality on-site afterschool programming for any family that desires it. Last year, the Parent PAC was successful in having this policy adopted by the school board and in garnering strong support across the Board of Supervisors. Now, we are working to make sure the full amount of funding needed to make this a reality makes it into the City’s budget for next school year.
The Common Core Math Implementation

The Parent PAC has been closely following the lively conversation surrounding the implementation of Common Core Math at SFUSD. We are working on a separate communication expressing our thoughts on this important issue- expect something soon. In the meantime, we have been encouraging School District leadership to live up to its promise of treating parents as education “partners.”
